For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can’t readily accept the God formula, the big answers don’t remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum. I am my own God.
We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state and our educational system.
We are here to drink beer.
We are here to kill war.
We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.
We are here to read these words from all these wise men and women who will tell us that we are here for different reasons and the same reason.
- Poet Charles Bukowski
I am reading my Philosophy notes by my tutor and one of the questions posed to us is 'what does it mean to be human?'. I find Bukowski's reply rather adept (part of me am sad that we are focusing mostly on English writers in my literature lessons compared to the American ones but I do see the rationale) although sci-fi writer Arthur C Clarke response is also very cute 'if we waste time looking for life's meaning, we may have no time to live or to play'. :D I remembered saying something like that before lol but I thought it was a lazy thought! Ha seems like Clarke approves of it too!
In other news, I am looking forward to Thursday for sushi!! I have been craving for it and am going to meet Shimin soon to satisfy it nom nom nom....
